DECEMBER 6 2021 ~ WISH TO BELIEVE VOLUME 2

In November 2021, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario author, Erin Hernden, published Wish to Believe, Volume 2 in audio and e-book versions, for children and young people.  Audio and e-book versions are now available for purchase on the this website. Look for printed versions in 2022.

Hernden believes these tales to be entertaining for adults as well. They are multi-purpose stories for reading, listening, and performing. Younger children will enjoy having these stories read to them, or listening to the audio books, as the colourful characters appear on each page.

In Toad Omnipotent, we meet twenty-five characters from Northern Ontario’s forests, swamps, and lakes. They are simultaneously wise, silly, amusing, and steadfast. The cast of characters, in ten different tales, includes Toad Omnipotent,Versifier and Culpability Jones, Grammie Girl Squirrel, Little Grandma Willahue, Pitchify Pine, Winnifred Owl, and The Unpleasant Pheasant. Little Grandma Willahue is Toad Omnipotent’s Barometer Bear.

The following audio clip is from TOAD OMNIPOTENT There Lives A Toad.

This Glorious Girl is based on Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic, Anne of Green Gables.

The author explains how she thinks of Anne, in the following words. “In spite of the pages Anne’s story is written on, Anne Shirley is not just a girl in a story. Her courage and her imagination transcend literature. This girl, with carrot-coloured hair, freckles, and pig tails akimbo, teaches us to think and contemplate and wonder, as only a kindred spirit can.” This Glorious Girl, when presented in a full theatrical production, offers speaking roles for some thirteen cast members and is written to easily accommodate more children in the cast. It is ideal for class and school drama programs.

The following audio clip is from THIS GLORIOUS GIRL Anne Goes to Church.

This drama includes a Christmas scene where Anne and her friends present a Christmas pageant like no other. Anne’s intensity implodes, explodes, entertains, and ultimately enchants the astounded people of Avonlea.

Next, we have a puppet tale, Rapunzel, A Fairly Funky Faery Story, starring a human Rapunzel and a cast of Very Village Puppets. The puppets include King Lahdidah, Queen Luverly, and an ever so evil faery, The Evil Enchantress. The scariest villains in the story? The Baker’s Bad Babies.

The following audio clip is from PUPPETS AND POETRY                              RAPUNZEL – A Fairly Funky Faery Tale.

For her first venture into printed and recorded poetry, the author offers a Christmas poem for narration and tableaux, It Was All Slightly Odd. In this poem, the heavenly host are startled by celestial laughter and reflection at the joy of children and little angels celebrating the Nativity. She closes with Tapestry, a tribute poem to all the players, of all ages, who have brought her characters to life over the past decades. To explain her delight in Christmas pageants and the children who present them, below are a few lines from an unpublished poem Sometimes I Think I Think Too Much.

In candle shadowed churches and humble holy halls ~ Tinsel Town girls and rubber baby dolls. I love Christmas pageants, wise men sometimes sage sirs plus one wiser dame. I love Mary; Joseph; scruffy shepherds; luminous, sassy seraphim and assorted bah-hd, leaping lambs. Irrespective of luminosity or leaps – all total hams. In candle shadowed churches and humble holy halls ~ Tinsel Town girls and rubber baby dolls. Forever Amen. I revere. Mostly I offer reverence to the haloed and be-towelled. Forever Amen. They beguile. Mostly they saunter adoring and adored. Smirking down the aisle. In candle shadowed churches and humble holy halls ~ Tinsel Town girls and rubber baby dolls.

The author wrote Toad Omnipotent this spring, and the other works during the past decade. Her goal is always storytelling that kindles the imagination. Although eminently suitable for formal production by school classes and drama programs, children may read these tales and act them out in their homes for fun. The characters in Toad Omnipotent and Rapunzel – A Fairly Funky Faery Tale are especially appropriate for playtime dress-up and puppets.

The high quality audio versions delight with enchanting music throughout. The complete package of audio books includes over thirty voices – all performed by Hernden. The most difficult voices? According to the author – a warty, funny, compassionate, and bossy toad named Toad Omnipotent; and a Royal Whispering White Pine named Versifier Jones. The full package of audio stories has a running time of two hours and forty-three minutes.

The e-book versions use lush bright backgrounds based on pictures she has taken of the fauna, flora, and lakes of Northern Ontario. Free, eye-popping background slides for Toad Omnipotent are available to schools from the author.  Likewise, the author provides  e-books without backgrounds for cast and crew photo-copying when plays are presented,  for Toad Omnipotent and all the other stories.  Simply send requests to: info@weewidevoice.ca.

Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.-based writer Erin Hernden (left) recorded her first audiobook, Ellie and Sammie Churchmouse and the Sissy Seasons of Song, in Prince Albert five years ago. It is now available on her website. Her husband Don (right) provided illustrations.

The Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.-based writer had been working on her children’s book, Ellie and Sammie Churchmouse and the Sissy Seasons of Song, on-and-off for the past seven years, with her husband Don contributing illustrations. Once the story was finished, Hernden recorded herself reading the book, thought to herself, “This reads well,” and decided to enlist the help of some musical family members to bring the text to life. This month the final product was finally made available on Hernden’s website, weewidevoice.ca.

Author Launches Audio Book on WeeWideVoice

Erin Hernden                                 Erin Hernden, Author & Narrator

WeeWideVoice offers the audio version of Erin Hernden’s children’s story, Ellie and Sammie Churchmouse and the Sissy Seasons of Song, on its web site weewidevoice.ca.

The revitalized e-commerce site has been created by Renfrew’s TUBMAN Marketing Inc.  Also available on the web site is a PDF version of the written book for download.

The children’s book,  for ages two to ten,  features two little churchmice, Ellie and Sammie, as they come to terms with each other and a surprising love of music.  Ellie and Sammie’s musical abilities are based on the talents of  soprano Kathleen Radke and musician Michael Connell.  For more news on the children’s story and all the folks involved in its production, please go to weewidevoice.ca.  You will see that it is indeed a family affair.

The audio book, with sound effects and music, was  produced by Prince Albert, Saskatchewan’s award winning musician and producer, Rich McFarlane at his Mosaic Music Studio.  Sound effects were provided by the virtuosity and inventiveness of both McFarlane and Connell; Ellie’s mousie opera voice is sung by Radke.  Their collective talents combined for a lively and entertaining recorded story.

In the  audio version, soprano Kathleen Radke sings an original lullaby composed by Michael Connell.   Kathleen and Michael grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and first performed music together at the ages   of eight and five.  Their lifelong love of music began as they sang as trebles in St. Luke’s Cathedral Choir.  St. Luke’s is the Anglican cathedral in the Sault.

Erin Hernden, the author and narrator, is pleased to announce that the printed version, illustrated by husband Don, is now available on Amazon.ca.
