FREE AUDIO BOOK AND PDF BOOK

Ellie and Sammie Churchmouse and the Sissy Seasons of Song ~ Recoloured and Sassied Up by author Erin Hernden is now free on this site.

Click on purchase and it will bring you to the links for the free audio book and lullabies, plus the free PDF book.

The children’s book, for ages two to ten, features two little comical churchmice, Ellie and Sammie, as they come to terms with each other and a surprising love of music.  Many of the characters’ attributes are based on the author’s experiences growing up; plus her observations of her family – attributes such as Ellie’s shyness.   Ellie and Sammie’s musical abilities are founded in the talents of soprano Kathleen Radke and musician Michael Connell.

The project was made possible entirely through the talents of family members.  Some sound effects and all the singing were recorded in Sault Ste. Marie; and the narration, final sound effects and final production at Mosaic Studio in the summer of 2012, with a successful launch of printed books and audio CDs in November of the same year.

Michael Connell provides sound effects along with Richard McFarlane of Mosaic Music.  Kathleen Radke sings four lullabies – including an original composition by Michael.   Kathleen also performs Ellie’s delightful mousie opera voice.  Erin Hernden paints the story through her narration, voicing each character as they take the stage on the page.   The entire collection of churchmice and friends are drawn by Don Hernden.

The audio lasts approximately 40 minutes.  It is a humorous, colourful tale of a world for children to enter as they listen while reading along.   The sound effects, music and unexpected ending introduce children to music, encouraging them to sing and play an instrument.  Enjoy!

Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.-based writer Erin Hernden (left) recorded her first audiobook, Ellie and Sammie Churchmouse and the Sissy Seasons of Song, in Prince Albert five years ago. It is now available on her website. Her husband Don (right) provided illustrations.

The Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.-based writer had been working on her children’s book, Ellie and Sammie Churchmouse and the Sissy Seasons of Song, on-and-off for the past seven years, with her husband Don contributing illustrations. Once the story was finished, Hernden recorded herself reading the book, thought to herself, “This reads well,” and decided to enlist the help of some musical family members to bring the text to life. This month the final product was finally made available on Hernden’s website, weewidevoice.ca.
